This is what Day one should be. Blue sky’s, warm temps, and white snow. Spring skiing in fall. A little bit of everything for the first day. The mountain opened from top to bottom with one run right down the middle. Well actually three or so, Hellgate, Broadway, Kennedy. At first it was a nice groomed trail. But soon the sun kicked in and the bumps started to emerge. I felt good from the start but a little winded. There was no snow on the mats at the chair lift so pushing onto the mats and up to the chair was a morning workout I was not expecting. But soon, buy about 8:45 AM I was on the chair and air born with a view like this. I was starting my season on my trusty twin tip. The Elan M02 M Pro Series Rail. Good choice for the day. I did switch to my Rossi 9S for a few runs but as the snow got soft the Rossi was a bit stiff and after all It was day one why work. So Back to the M02. I was able to work in some ripping carvers, small bumps and even a few small jumps. After a bunch of runs I needed a break and took an early lunch. When I went back out and turned my attention to some drills. I worked on some flat ski turns and some tight edge turns. Then back to some free carving. I had the privilege of meeting one of the worlds fastest woman on skis. Tracie Max Sachs (Quickchick) at 148.27 mph. You can see her at here we skied a bit together but were both ready to call it a day. Plus the lift was acting up and my body was telling me enough! What a way to end the day, skiing a run with the worlds fastest woman skier. This is going to be a great season.

It was my first training day. ATS on snow. We started inside viewing a power point, Oh joy! Soon we all headed to the base lodge to get on snow. One trail on the lower mountain was open but it was all we needed to drill and it was great. Our new program director Pam Greene was conducting the clinic. We worked on flat ski skills, then building some edge and flexing the ankle to control turn shape. So how does a sit-skier do that? Well our bucket is the boot so our hip is the ankle. Flex at the hips moving your torso fore and aft and you will weight and un-weight the ski tip and bend the ski thus change your turn shape. We broke off in pairs and worked on the drills. I paired up with David and we had a great day working or the skills. It was another picture perfect day. Here is Dave, Pam, what’s his name and Mary At the top of D-lift ready to work out those summer kinks. Lunch on the sun deck was again reminiscent of late spring. It was a good thing we got that time out on snow because the sun was gearing up for it’s last assault on the snow. The mountain closed two days later due to warm temps and rain.

Training, indoor, no snow, but the guns were on. It was DST 4 track training. We talked about evaluating the student and reviewed the equipment. It was a good indoor clinic.

12-3-06 Windham
Training, indoor again, DST (Disabled Ski Teaching) We watched videos and slides to show the similarities between the US race team and the US disabled race team. It was good, kind of a tease watching people ski on screen when you are at the mountain but it was a training day non the less.
