Single Ski Review

Single Ski Review

Hi, It's me Tom. This is a ski review. I am a c6c7 incomplete quad. I mono-ski at an advanced level. This review is merely my opinion of the skis performance when used with a mono-ski.I would read a ski review in one of the ski magazines and based on it, I would choose a ski. However, all my weight plus the weight of the mono on one ski can change the resultof the ski's performance. So I live and learn, and post the result here. I hope this helps you to choose a ski best for you.

This is an interactive web site. If you have a ski or skis that you would like to review, please do so here.In subject line put ski review. In your review of the ski also list your disability and type of mono or bi-ski you use.

The Atomic 9.18 Beta Carve 190cm

(Tested on a Shadow mono-ski with standard Shadow binding with 1" Elan Riser)
(Tested on a Shadow mono-ski with a Grove active binding)
(Tested on a Grove mono-ski with a boot mount and Marker binding)

What an unbelievable ski. I love everything about it. The edge control is awesome, Boiler plate ice, No problem. The Carving is great, just roll it on edge and an your gone. I tore up the mountain on this ski. A very stable ski for a mono-ski, it is a great all mountain ski. High speed carving with a great snap and quick turns in bumps. It holdslike you are on rails through the whole turn. The Beta technology is great.
I give the Atomic 9.18 Beta Carve 190cm, three cheers, two thumbs up and a hand clap.

The Atomic 9.26 Beta Carve 190cm

(Tested on a Grove mono-ski with a Grove active binding)
This is one great ski. I love everything about it. The edge control is awesome, Boiler plate ice, No problem. The camber is high and the release (snap) out of a turn is fast. This ski gave me so much confidence, black, double black, it did not matter I just rocked them all. This is a great all mountain ski. High speed carving and quick turns in bumps. I give the Atomic 9.26 Beta Carve 190cm, three cheers, two thumbs up and a hand clap.

The Atomic 9.26 Beta Carve 180cm

(Tested on a REVOLUTION Pro Comp mono-ski with a Freedom Factory Monster binding)
This is one great ski. I love everything about it. The edge control is awesome, Boiler plate ice, No problem. The camber is high and the release (snap) out of a turn is fast. This ski gave me so much confidence, black, double black, it did not matter I just rocked them all. This is a great all mountain ski. High speed carving was not as stable with the 180cm as with the 190, but the quick turns in the bumps resulted in my first zipper line bump run. I give the Atomic 9.26 Beta Carve 180cm, three cheers, two thumbs up and a hand clap.

The Volant Power Karve steel 193cm

(Tested on a Shadow mono-ski with standard Shadow binding with 1" Elan Riser)
(Tested on a Shadow mono-ski with a Grove active binding)

I'll tell you, this skis ROCKS.The Volant Power Karve is a monster ski. This puppy just eats it up. Ice, bites right into it, hard packed, carve right through it, powder, floats right over it. The amount of fun I had with this ski should be illegal. This ski is a great ski for a mono. It is stiff and it turns on a dime, with great edge control. It is called A mid-fat cross-carver for advanced to expert all-mountain skiers who want the versatility and stability of a wider platform in variable snow conditions. The name tells it all, Power Karve. This bad boy carves so nice my expert ski buddies watching me where impressed. The only thing I would change would be to add a little more camber to the ski, but I am not complaining. I love the Volant Power Karve, two thumbs up and a hand clap.

The HEAD Cyber World Cup 190cm

(Tested on a Grove mono-ski with a boot mount and Tyrolia binding)

This is a great ski. Fast turns, carves like a dream, stable at speed, with good flexin bumps. Excellent edge control with a nice snap out the turn. This is a great all mountain ski for a mono-ski.It is real easy to ski and a lot of fun. Two thumbs up and a hand clap.

Salomon Equipeaxe Series 190cm

(Tested on a Shadow mono-ski with a Grove active binding)

This is a good stiff ski with a nice high camber. It snaps from turn to turn and carves like and electric knife.I like it! It took some getting use to. This is a lot of ski to handle, but after a run or two I was carving up the mountain like a pro. This is a great all mountain ski for a mono. Two thumbs up.

The Salomon Xscream Series 195cm

(Tested on a Shadow mono-ski with a Grove active binding)
(Tested on a Grove mono-ski with a boot mount and Marker binding)

This is good ski if you like to work your turns. I found it to be a little slow to engage the turn.I like a ski to turn a bit faster. However, when you get the Xscream on edge look out. This puppycarves a nice arc. Transition from edge to edge at speed is nice, however on hard pack I find the Xscream a bit soft for a mono. On soft pack and powder it is a lot of fun to ski. One thumb up.

(Tested on a Grove mono-ski with a boot mount and Marker binding)

I found the ski to perform about the same regardless of the binding, However the ease ofmounting the ski and changing the ski is hands down much better then bolting on a ski.

The ELAN DARK SIDE 183cm with Riser

(Tested on a Shadow mono-ski with standard Shadow binding)

I find that using a riser with the Shadow mono-ski really helps to save the ski. This is the shortest and most radical side cut I have ever used. I liked it a lot. The ski has a great bite when on edge, and it carves right into the ice. Good flex with a nice snap out of a turn. A great all mountain ski. I took on some steep slick trails and carved them up with this ski. Two thumbs up!

The Rossignol 9S PRO 191cm

This ski is a great ski for a mono. It is stiff and it turns on a dime, with great edge control. Boiler plate ice, No problem, the 9S cuts right into it and holds it's edge.If you are a speed freak you might want something a bit longer then the 191cm, but for an all mountain, fast, strong ski the 191 cm is great. It has good flex in the bumps, and it carves like a dream. I give the Rossignol 9S PRO 191cm two thumbs up and a hand clap.

The Rossignol Viper-C 9.3 198cm

This is my all mountain bad boy. Go any where do any thing ski. Solid, fast, quick turns, stiff, what can I say, I love it. It is my best all condition ski. It is rock solidon ice and carves great at high speed. I give the Rossignol Viper-C 9.3 198cm two thumbs up and a hand clap.

The Rossignol Energy 9.9 Plus 191cm

This it a very cool ski. Not as stiff as I like a ski for a mono, but in the soft spring conditions it is great. It turns on a dime with great edge control and snaps you out of the turn quick. It carves deep and fast.A real fun ski for all mountain spring skiing. I give the Rossignol Energy 9.9 Plus 191cm a thumbs up.

The Olin Radius k 188cm

A great all mountain ski. Stiff, quick turning, solid at high speed. It carves through icelike a dream and flexes great in the bumps. A real fun ski. I give the Olin Radius k 188cmtwo thumbs up.

The Olin DTSL 188cm

This ski is a little too soft for my taste. It is a lot of fun in softsnow. It carves great and turns quick. It was not very stable at high speed and very weakon ice. I give the Olin DTSL 188cm thumbs down for use with a mono.

The K2 Merlin V 188cm

This is a carver for sure, and it turns quick with a nice little snap and the bottom of the turn. It isstiff and holds up very well at high speed, I guess that piezo thing really works. It is a great all conditionall mountain ski. It does have a good bite on the ice, and on the soft stuff, and in bumps this thing rocks. This is my main spring conditions ski, however you can used it all season long. I give the K2 Merlin V 188cmtwo thumbs up.
